I’m having surgery in two days. I’ve had this type of surgery before and I know that it’s routine, but I’m still feeling a little nervous. I just keep telling myself that this may be exactly what I need to finally get where I’ve been going for the past sixteen years.
I can hope at least.
So, if you can, send me good vibes, positive thoughts, what have you. I would greatly appreciate it.
See you on the other side.
I want to apologize in advance for how short this post is going to be. I have been writing so much for NaNoWriMo and working so much for the holiday season that I don’t seem to have any energy left today.
So, here’s a picture from my drive home in beautiful West Virginia.
I’m going to go take a nap now.
November is known as National Novel Writing Month. Participants agree to write a 50,000-word novel in 30 days. By agree, I mean they make an agreement with themselves that they won’t make excuses for why they can’t write, and will just write. This year, I decided to sign up and this is my first week’s progress.
I have found this experience to be revealing. I have always been an inspiration based writer – as in, I only wrote when I was inspired to do so. Having such a large goal to reach in such a short time has made it necessary for me to write every single day, whether I am inspired to or not.
I am now on a 7-day writing streak. I am super proud of myself for not making excuses for why I can’t write and just getting to it already. Yesterday, I didn’t make my daily goal, but every other day I have. To keep myself on track, I wrote enough today to make up for my lack yesterday and to reach todays daily goal.
My writing may never be seen by anyone else, but the act of simply putting my thoughts on paper is a freeing experience. I’m glad I chose to participate.
When I was younger, I lived on Okinawa, Japan for about 3½ years. During that time, a new dish was introduced to my family at the bowling alley on base – Taco Rice. This dish has since become a staple in all our diets.
Taco Rice is extremely easy to make. It is essentially the inside of a taco over rice. Another way to look at it is a taco salad with rice instead of tortilla chips. Either way, it’s rice, seasoned beef, cheese, lettuce tomatoes, salsa, and (for me at least) sour cream.
It is truly delicious and pretty healthy. By making it yourself you can control the type and quality of the ingredients. You could add anything that you like to the dish: corn, beans, lime, whatever.
The beauty of this dish is that it is versatile. I love building my Taco Rice bowl and mixing all the deliciousness together. It makes my tummy very happy, and that makes me very happy.
It’s the most wonderful day of the year!
No offense to the other holidays, but Halloween is just the best. Costumes and candy and magic in the air. A time for anyone to be anyone or anything they want. It’s a beautiful thing.
Now, I feel like it’s really autumn. The weather is getting colder, the leaves are changing colors, and children are running around dressed like witches and goblins.
Halloween is just wonderful!
A couple days ago, the hubby and I went to early voting for the midterm elections.
We got our voices heard and you should too.
Remember, it’s not how you vote, just that you vote. Every voice deserves to be heard and every vote counts.
Sometimes, things don’t go as planned.
My car died yesterday and I ended up having to replace the battery since it wouldn’t hold a charge anymore, for some unknown reason.
I couldn’t open my reusable water bottle this morning and had to fill it using the tiny opening I drink from.
My phone freaked out today and wouldn’t respond for about 5 hours.
I wore the wrong shoes to work and my feet are killing me now.
But, even with everything going wrong, I still believe that amazing things are going to happen. Positivity in the face of crushing defeat is difficult, but totally worth it.
I, like a lot of people, have a favorite Marvel character. I also have a favorite DC character, but this post isn’t about her. If you couldn’t tell from the title, I am a huge Groot fan.
So, why do I like Groot so much? Well, for starters, he’s an insanely loyal friend – he was more than willing to lay down his life to save everyone else’s. Also, he’s a man of few words, but those words have vast meaning. All you have to do to understand, is to truly listen, a trait most of us could stand to work on.
Plus, he is a lover of music, which is something that is integral in my life.
I even like that he isn’t 100% a “hero.” When we meet him in the first Guardians of the Galaxy, he is, in fact, a criminal. Of course, this doesn’t stop him from being a good guy. Circumstances often have a way of changing how we are perceived by others.
What’s more important though, is how we perceive ourselves. No matter what our circumstances, it’s up to each of us to choose who we are and who we will be in the future.
So, who are you?
Where I live, the internet is pretty terrible. Still, it’s never completely given up quite like this. I’m not sure when I’ll be able to get it back online, so I’m writing this post on my phone. Not ideal, I know.
In any case, until I get the internet up and running, I’ll be trying to keep up with my self imposed blogging schedule using my phone.
Thanks for your patience.
Ok, studio may be kind of a stretch. It’s not much, just a mat and a block in my living room, but it’s mine. My own space to stretch and relax, once a day, every day.
That’s right, I’ve been doing yoga every day now for the past six weeks. I’m not very good. I probably won’t be good for quite a while. Of course, that’s not why I do yoga. By now, everyone is aware of the health benefits that yoga offers – the flexibility, life longevity, disease prevention. Sure, I partly do it for all those things.
But, mostly, I do it because it makes me feel accomplished. It’s one thing I can check off my list every day. Whether it’s for 5 minutes or 30 minutes, I’ve done something productive and good for me, and I enjoy that feeling.
Everyone comes to the mat for different reasons. I say, whatever your reason may be, I’m glad you’ve found it and I hope you find as much enjoyment there as I do.
