So, life being what it is, I’m about 10,000 words behind and there is only a week left of November. I don’t think I’m going to make it, but I’m pretty happy about how far I got in my first attempt.
Maybe next year I’ll get a little farther.
Maybe I’ll even make it all the way to the end.
Who knows – stranger things have happened.
It’s almost Turkey Day!! The food holiday that many people look forward to all year long. It’s the one day when eating way too much is not only socially acceptable, but absolutely expected. The day for stretchy pants and food coma’s.
It’s a day for being thankful for what we have and spending time with family while eating fabulous food. I’m not hosting Thanksgiving this year, but we were invited to a cousin’s house for dinner. She has everything covered, but I wanted to bring her a little something anyway. So, I had a bit of a baking day today.
I made Shortbread Cookies using a recipe from GeniusKitchen.com
I made a Pumpkin Roll using a recipe from GimmeSomeOven.com
I made Raspberry Pastry Roll-Ups using a recipe from GeniusKitchen.com
And, I made Cheesecake Stuffed Banana Bread using a recipe from CookiesandCups.com
It was a fun and tasty day.
I’m super thankful for all the people in my life who are there when I need them. I’m also thankful for my husband, dogs, and birds. Our little family unit makes me happy every day and I will always be grateful that we are together.
Hope everyone has a wonderful holiday!
My procedure went well yesterday. I’m still pretty sore, but otherwise doing fine. I go back next week to find out what the doctor found out, if anything.
That’s it for now. I gotta go lay back down.
Talk to you again, soon.
I’m having surgery in two days. I’ve had this type of surgery before and I know that it’s routine, but I’m still feeling a little nervous. I just keep telling myself that this may be exactly what I need to finally get where I’ve been going for the past sixteen years.
I can hope at least.
So, if you can, send me good vibes, positive thoughts, what have you. I would greatly appreciate it.
See you on the other side.
I want to apologize in advance for how short this post is going to be. I have been writing so much for NaNoWriMo and working so much for the holiday season that I don’t seem to have any energy left today.
So, here’s a picture from my drive home in beautiful West Virginia.
I’m going to go take a nap now.
November is known as National Novel Writing Month. Participants agree to write a 50,000-word novel in 30 days. By agree, I mean they make an agreement with themselves that they won’t make excuses for why they can’t write, and will just write. This year, I decided to sign up and this is my first week’s progress.
I have found this experience to be revealing. I have always been an inspiration based writer – as in, I only wrote when I was inspired to do so. Having such a large goal to reach in such a short time has made it necessary for me to write every single day, whether I am inspired to or not.
I am now on a 7-day writing streak. I am super proud of myself for not making excuses for why I can’t write and just getting to it already. Yesterday, I didn’t make my daily goal, but every other day I have. To keep myself on track, I wrote enough today to make up for my lack yesterday and to reach todays daily goal.
My writing may never be seen by anyone else, but the act of simply putting my thoughts on paper is a freeing experience. I’m glad I chose to participate.
When I was younger, I lived on Okinawa, Japan for about 3½ years. During that time, a new dish was introduced to my family at the bowling alley on base – Taco Rice. This dish has since become a staple in all our diets.
Taco Rice is extremely easy to make. It is essentially the inside of a taco over rice. Another way to look at it is a taco salad with rice instead of tortilla chips. Either way, it’s rice, seasoned beef, cheese, lettuce tomatoes, salsa, and (for me at least) sour cream.
It is truly delicious and pretty healthy. By making it yourself you can control the type and quality of the ingredients. You could add anything that you like to the dish: corn, beans, lime, whatever.
The beauty of this dish is that it is versatile. I love building my Taco Rice bowl and mixing all the deliciousness together. It makes my tummy very happy, and that makes me very happy.
It’s the most wonderful day of the year!
No offense to the other holidays, but Halloween is just the best. Costumes and candy and magic in the air. A time for anyone to be anyone or anything they want. It’s a beautiful thing.
Now, I feel like it’s really autumn. The weather is getting colder, the leaves are changing colors, and children are running around dressed like witches and goblins.
Halloween is just wonderful!
A couple days ago, the hubby and I went to early voting for the midterm elections.
We got our voices heard and you should too.
Remember, it’s not how you vote, just that you vote. Every voice deserves to be heard and every vote counts.
Sometimes, things don’t go as planned.
My car died yesterday and I ended up having to replace the battery since it wouldn’t hold a charge anymore, for some unknown reason.
I couldn’t open my reusable water bottle this morning and had to fill it using the tiny opening I drink from.
My phone freaked out today and wouldn’t respond for about 5 hours.
I wore the wrong shoes to work and my feet are killing me now.
But, even with everything going wrong, I still believe that amazing things are going to happen. Positivity in the face of crushing defeat is difficult, but totally worth it.
